About us

We are the Local Action Group for the North Wessex Downs LEADER Fund, and we have £2 milion to give away!

Do you have a great idea that deserves a share of the LEADER money? We can give your project a capital boost. If your idea matches one or more of our targets, you really should get in touch!

Favoured themes for projects include local food, local tourism, mitigation for climate change, farm diversification, business transformation and new small enterprise start-ups.

How much money can I get?

Grants can be up to £50,000 – or up to 50% of the capital costs. (Outstanding and highly innovative projects might get a higher % grant.) Your project must have match-funding in place, in the form of additional investment or loans. Money is paid retrospectively – we do not give you money up front.

What type of project gets LEADER money?

The vast majority of our funding is for capital investment, as opposed to revenue or running costs. We have a set of targets, and all projects have to suit one of these. Please read about our themes and targets…

Who is eligible for the money?

Cash is available to projects by farmers and landowners, woodland managers, and other rural businesses, or people starting up a new enterprise, as well as community groups. You do not have to be from an organisation – individuals can apply. You should be based in the North Wessex Downs Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty (AONB) or your project should benefit the area.

Funds with a local focus

LEADER is European money provided to help the rural economy and sustainability at a local level through the Rural Development Programme for England (RDPE). The Local Action Group is responsible for administering the LEADER money for the North Wessex Downs Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty. Group members are people from the local community, mostly elected, and many of us are volunteers.
